In my 18 years as an educator, there are few paths that I have crossed that show the commitment and desire to enhance opportunities for our children than Dr. Jones.  Her character and work ethic are phenomenal.  She is an exceptional individual who goes over and beyond her call of duty.  Dr. Jones is a noteworthy educator whose performance shines and touches the lives of all who she encounters.
Furthermore, Dr. Jones is a professional educator who has the academic, practical ability, skill, background, and expertise to make a measurable difference in her children’s lives. Her interactive style of mentoring exemplifies many qualities that not only make her a wonderful counselor, but also an effective change-agent. Likewise, her ability to interject a caring and exciting attitude, adapt and relate to various diverse groups, stay abreast of trends and issue, and her willingness to share her knowledge, to enhance the spiritual and professional growth of others, are a few examples of qualities that make her the excellent counselor and educator that she is.

Most essential, her work with school children not only includes counseling and mentoring, but also encompasses that nurturing quality that is so essential when work with the adolescent child.  Accordingly, her understanding of the social, emotional, and developmental needs of her children allows her to be an outstanding counselor and advisor.  In short, Dr. Jones is s an effective, highly motivated change-agent who sets goals and works in a self-determined manner.  Likewise, she is a professional, reinforced by academic motivation, acquisition, and personal spirit and initiative.

Dr. Jones was encouraging, enthusiastic, and just wonderful to deal with.  Equally important, she could actually navigate through “the K-12 system,” and get things done with ease.  Notably, she was the most knowledgeable college counselor at my high school.  Particularly, Dr. Jones’ vast knowledge of colleges, majors, and the overall application process was very impressive. Notably, these attributes were not experienced by many of my fellow classmates.

Dr. Jones’ guidance has benefited me outside the confines of her office at Dr. Michael Krop Senior High School. She has been a counselor, advisor, mentor, confidant, and advocate for me for the past nine years.  She has been consistently gracious, selfless, honest, and empathetic for the time I have known her. Her counseling has impacted me academically and personally. Moreover, Dr. Jones has led me to make informed and prudent decisions regarding my education, career, and personal relationships. Furthermore, her advisement transforms young people into aware, healthy, confident, responsible, successful and progressive individuals.

Dr. Jones was my guidance counselor throughout high school and provided me with the personable attention I needed to determine my path for the future. I remember her as being very encouraging and supportive, but very realistic, as to not allow my sometimes lofty dreams and
aspirations to float too far away of the practical parameters of society. She had made such a profound impact on me in such we have continued to keep in contact.  Furthermore, she maintained an unwavering interest in my future and she continued to be there for me as a resource. Although I had graduated high school, she would still check on me to ensure that my educational compass was still properly oriented and I was heading in the right direction. Dr. Jones has guided me, along with hundreds of other students who are currently on the right track, and I am confident that her guidance and personality allows her to be a successful counselor, consultant, and navigator.

I first met Dr. Jones as an 8th grader, not yet out of the Catholic schooling system.  My parents and I met with Dr. Jones prior to my entrance into MKHS to select my classes and get a better feel for what then seemed to be such a new world.  With confident assurance, Dr. Jones told my parents that under no circumstances would I succumb to the crowd; I would have the opportunity to stand out in a large environment, just as I had in my small parochial school.  It was then that my fears of attending a public school were assuaged.  Dr. Jones continued to follow my progress until my senior year of high school.
Even when she was inundated with requests from students and amidst the process of her transition out of MKHS and the Miami-Dade school system altogether, she found the time to council me in my future endeavors, with the same enthusiasm, compassion, and forward-thinking that she had shown my parents and me four years earlier.  She wrote me an astoundingly detailed letter of recommendation that I still have saved even today, and gave me uplifting advice for the years to come.  Dr. Jones made a difference in my life when it came to keeping my head up, fulfilling my potential, extending outside of my comfort zone, looking eagerly to the future, and maintaining my self-respect.  Without such guidance, I may not have had the confidence to begin high school in the successful way that I did, or look to higher education with such optimism. All the best…….

Dr. Jones was the best counselor for me while I attended MKHS.  I loved walking into her office because I always felt safe and comfortable and I could talk to her about anything and she would always give me the best advice on school and personal issues.  Dr. Jones encouraged me to get out of my shell, so when I started college I became more involved on campus and even held leadership positions in a club and sorority.  I am very thankful that I have had such an awesome woman in my life whom I could look up to because I could see that Dr. Jones is strong and very motivated, and I wanted to strive to be just like her.  As I continue to move forward with my education I will always remember what Dr. Jones has done for me, and when I finally graduate as a doctor she will be the first person I have to thank =).

It would truly be an understatement to say that Dr. Jones has been one of the best assets to enter Miami Northwestern. Upon her entrance, some were opposed as usual, but her desire and passion was not delayed. Instead, she labored intensely, and sought to provide the best resources available to all students who came within her path. I was one of the students. Not only can I proudly say that Dr. Jones's devotion has broaden my outlook of life, but her dedication has lead me to become a better student, daughter, friend, and student. Her ways taught me more than a "regular" high school counselor could ever attempt to. I have learned a plethora of lessons that can be applied to my daily life. Her unending support and sometimes "tough love," has been beneficial beyond words.
She teaches many lessons to even those who may not realize her worth, but soon learn to appreciate her counsel. Her impact on my life has been so great that I can still feel the warmth and truth in her words today. Her wonderful deeds and courageous thoughts have been the reason for many of my endeavors today. Her name can be heard through the halls ways of Northwestern, from the lips of many students, and felt in the hearts of those she affected. It has been said, "You never know the value of what you have until you lost it." However, in such a case, the value of what Northwestern lost only doubled in what I have gained in someone as great as a person as Dr. Jones.

Dr. Jones, my interaction with you was nothing but always great fun. You were always supportive and a great listener. To be honest, I hated high-school and thought it was a real waste of my time but being able to meet a person like you was not only intellectually stimulating but made me look forward to seeing you in the hallways, as I usually did. You always had a way of putting me in a better mood and your strong sense of character was always something I admired and respected.

It’s funny how someone can change your world in a flash. Almost two years ago, I was a lost and confused girl who viewed the world, and all of its possibilities, through scared and timid eyes. At this juncture in my life, various issues, concerns, and uncertainties cemented me in a life of disarray.  However, God answered my prayers when he delivered Dr. Jones unto me for a second time. She is a constant light in the dark; someone who truly relates to my concerns and understands my needs, when it often feels as though no one else does. Once more, she skillfully addressed and clarified my distress within less than a week. Personally, I characterize Dr. Jones to be “The Discover;” always working hard to dig, buff, and present the hidden “diamond” within each one of her students. She excavates, polishes, and reveals the newly discovered, cultivate, and enhanced diamond which currently allows me to shine.  Her strong stance as a woman, who expects greatness from every young woman that she encounters, proves to be an amazing attribute which I plan to emulate.

Initially, I was introduced to Dr. Jones through the position of guidance counselor. Later she became a lifelong mentor.  Unlike traditional high school guidance counselors, she did not only counsel me academically, but instead nurtured, encouraged, molded, and guided me towards heightened successes.  She highlighted and made me realize my talents, strengths, and my potential. Furthermore, Dr. Jones advises me to follow my dreams, and provides me with the necessary tools to obtain them. From college applications, scholarship searches, to self-esteem boosts, she does it all. Due to her never-ending guidance, I am currently enrolled in college, completing a bachelor degree in Nursing and a minor in Psychology; graduating in May 2010. Subsequently, I will pursue graduate school to study Pediatric Nursing to become a Practitioner. Thereafter, it is my desire to open a practice in Haiti, where there is a dire need for dedicated health care providers.  Equally important, I plan run a dual-country, student exchange, Nursing Student internship program on the island of Haiti, and launch and build my own scholarship fund to support this venture. Notably, when I establish the student exchange nurse intern program, it will be name after my life-long mentor: "Dr. Jones’ Dreams Comes True!"

Consequently, life is an experience full of ups and downs, twists and turns, and complete 360 degree rotations, of which no one is truly prepared. Thus, who would have predicted that my life would cease to be the same after I met my high school counselor that faithful day? Fortunately, special people such as Dr. Jones cross our paths and enable this “journey called life” to be worthwhile, further enhancing, expanding, and heightening who are to be. In short, God has blessed me, allowing our paths to cross, and I know in my heart that simply saying "thank you" is not enough. However, I cannot close without extending the utmost gratitude to and respect for her, and saying just that, “thank you” Dr. Jones: your advice, efforts, and support are truly appreciated. Ultimately, you have changed my life for the better, earning a permanent place in my life.  I love you with all my heart and wish you ultimate happiness and success.

Love always,

Nine years ago I was at a crossroad in my life. I had just departed from the magnet drama program at Michael Krop, and I was being bullied by a former member of the Drama magnet program. Every day was a constant battle, the minute that I stepped foot on campus (Krop), I felt lonely, scared, rejected, and inadequate. My supposed friends in the drama program abandoned me. I always assumed they would be there for me, but once I exited from the program it seemed to have also been from their lives. To top it off, a female bully who seemed to have it out for me, was spreading gossip, threatening me, and constantly giving me these antagonistic, foul looks. I had informed the drama professor at Krop about my dilemma with this student, but she disregarded it and told me there was nothing she could do.  What could I do? Who could I turn to? Especially in a school where your problems would only be solved through exercising how much money your parents have. Consequently, my depression seeped into my home life and once my mother found out she had, had enough.

The next day she and my older sister marched right in to the administrator’s office at Krop and demanded that something be done about my situation. That was my first introduction to Ms. Jones. Ms. Jones a tall, prominent woman came out and asked what was going on. As my mother briefly explained, Ms. Jones invited us into her office. My mother and I then went into detail about what was occurring and Ms. Jones took immediate action. Not only did she resolve the issues, but she addressed all of my future concerns, and every other school related dilemma. From that day on, I would always find time in my day to visit her, and she would always have time to enlighten me.  Always available to my peers and me, Dr. Jones consistently, she would allow me to sit with her during my lunch period, when there were many occasions I didn’t have anyone to sit with.

Furthermore, she helped me chose the right college for me. Most importantly she helped me, when no one else would.  I don’t think that she truly realized how strong of an impact she made on me, but I am me strong today because she showed me how to be, I am wise because she encouraged me to learn, I am here because she showed me the light. As much as I try to forget my High School experience, I have always remembered Ms. Jones and the positivity that she brought into my life. For that I am eternally grateful. Thank you Ms. Jones.

I had the misfortune, or what I considered misfortune at the time, of meeting Dr. Jones in my freshman year of high school. I was an average grade student, and everyone around me saw more in me than I did in myself. She was the first person to make me see what I was really capable of, by scaring the living daylights out of me! She stood by me since that day, giving me encouraging words of wisdom, or a swift kick in the pants, so to speak. She taught me to be honest with myself, and to quit beating around the proverbial bush and get things done. She has been a great family friend, and a great teacher.

I have been a student of the lovely Dr. Jones for over eleven years, and historically and currently, she manages to keep me grounded.  Her relevant, sharp wisdom, as well as her stern and very straightforward brand of mentorship is often welcomed. Consequently, I learned many residual lessons from her, even though many of these lessons were not intentionally delivered. As a result, she has shed so much light through the most unsettling periods of my life.  Thus, due to the above, I extend my sincere gratitude and well wishes to my counselor for life, Dr. Jones.

Dr. Jones, I want to thank you for everything.  If it was not for your honesty, strength, and support, I probably would not have graduated.  You inspire me to do the best that I can.  There was a point in my life when I felt like giving up.  I felt that there was no hope and you were there not only as a counselor, but also, most importantly, as a friend.  I have always admired your strength. And just in case I have not told you as much as I should have, you made a great impact on my life.  You are an amazing woman.  It is not very often that I find someone I could be completely honest with and know that they will still like me anyways, but you did.  You listened to me when I needed to speak to you, cared for me when no one else did, and you were my tissue when I needed to cry.  Furthermore, every time I left your office, I felt better.  Even when you did not tell me what I wanted to hear, you told me the truth, and that was very important to me. I would not want to lose contact with you, thus I hope will always keep in touch. Thank you so much Dr. Jones, you are highly appreciated.

Dear Dr. Jones,
Thank you for what you have did for me.  You have helped me in so many possible ways.  You are like another mother to me and if it wasn’t for your guidance, directing me towards my destiny, I would probably be lost in deep confusion.  I hope God blesses you in so many ways for what you have done for me and others.  Dr. Jones, you are my guiding angel  who has cured me from all the stress and worrying, manifested due to the anticipation of returning to school to complete my education. You have made me a better person as well as a better mother than previously.

You have changed my life and gave me another chance to be somebody in life.   Moreover, you put me back on my feet, where I needed to be.  Because you gave me the strength that I needed to enter the real world and keep fighting, I will show you that I will complete my goals. To show my gratitude, this coming year, I am planning to graduate, enroll in college, and be all that I can be, plus more.  So keep doing what you do to change lives, because you sure changed my life in the most essential manner. As a result, I want you to know how much you have helped me and how much you are appreciated.  Until next time, thank you very much, Dr. Jones.  To be continued very soon….  Sincerely,

Dr. Jones, I do not know if anybody has told you this but you’re the best staff member and counselor American Senior High School has ever had.  You are intelligent, kind, and loving, and you know how to communicate with students in a manner that renders results.  For these reasons, you are on e of my role models.  Hopefully, I will evolve into the woman that you are.  Once more, thank you for your help.  I will not be here if it were not for you. Dr. Jones has been instrumental and very helpful in offering much needed advice and counsel to my son, Andre Parcells, throughout his years at Dr. Michael Krop, and she continues to be source of information even today.  Dr. Jones has followed up on his advancement and can always be counted on to give her best advice on any situation. She has given information that enabled him to enroll in the PIP program at FIU, which gave him an early start on his college education. Dr. Jones has his interest at heart, and would love to see him succeed. We still keep in touch as she tries to track the progress of her former students and parents. We value her input, and she is only a phone call away. Thanks again for all you do for both your students as well as the parents. Sincerely,

Dear Dr. Jones, I want to thank you for being a true believer in Education and standing up for what is right for our children. You have motivated many students to go beyond college and make their dreams a reality. One of those students is my daughter Alexandra Paroulek Class of 2005 from Michael M. Krop Senior high school.  Alexandra attended Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Fl on a scholarship and graduated on May 9th top 20% percent in her class with a B.S. in Biology and was in the NSU Honors program 4 years where she received the gold medal for her 2 year breast cancer research.  Alexandra was flown to New Orleans by NSU all expenses paid to present her cancer research. Equally impressive, Alexandra was accepted to all 3 medical school she applied to and will be attending the Ivy League medical school in Naturopathic Medicine in Kenmore Washington this month.

All this is possible because for your dedication and high standards you made sure Alexandra followed while at MKHS. We are grateful for all you have done, and without any reservations, I would be honored to recommend you to any dedicated student, invested parent, and/or progressive educational institution. You are an asset to our society, andmost essential, you are our future leaders' guide to success!  The best to you always!

As a parent, I found Dr. Jones’ enthusiasm refreshing.  She helped me to obtain curriculum information that I could not readily obtain from my son’s assigned counselor, including confirmation that some of the initial advice that I had received was incorrect.  She encouraged me to be an advocate for my son in the school system in order to ensure that he would be granted the opportunities available to allow him to reach his highest educational potential.  Throughout my son’s high school years, I stopped by Dr. Jones’s office from time to time to say hello and I often found her encouraging students to thrive.  Students surrounded Dr. Jones and she demonstrated an ability to establish genuine relationships with all of her students.  On a personal level, I am happy to report that my son is about to graduate from a top-ranked Ivy League college.  He plans to pursue a career in business.  I wish Dr. Jones much success in her new personal and entrepreneurial endeavor as she continues to help students to reach their educational and professional dreams.

Dear Dr. Jones, my wife and I would like to offer you our most sincere thanks and gratitude for the personalized attention you gave our son, Peter, this past year.  Your constant availability, quickness in processing Peter’s college applications, along with your beautiful and supportive comments when needed assisted Peter in obtaining acceptance to the two universities he applied to, namely University of Michigan and Cornell Universities.  Your diligence and commitment to your profession is a stand-out in today’s world. Again, many thanks for all you help.  Peter, my wife, and I wish you a healthy and happy summer. Sincerely,

Paul Sudack, M.D.

Dear MKHS Principal, this letter is being sent to thank you and let you know how wonderful it was for my daughter, Erin Hantman, to deal with counselor, Dr. Denise-Bonnette Jones.  She was not only caring and attentive, but also exceptionally professional when preparing Erin’s school reports for submission to the universities.  Dr. Jones is an asset to your school and has her priorities well defined.  Initially, Erin was extremely apprehensive about the issue of another counselor interceding on her behalf.  However, Dr. Jones took the initiative to assure Erin that there would be no repercussions or ill felling by you administration.  Again, I want to thank you for your attention to this matter.  It is comforting to know that there are people in your school such as Dr. Jones and yourself that care about the well being of all the students.  Sincerely,

Mrs. Susan R. Hantman, 2002

Dr. Jones,
Thank you for all of your dedication to Sarah, Michael.  You are truly the greatest “guidance” counselor!  I stress “guidance” because you always have an open door and guide “your” students in the right direction. You treat each student as if he/she were your only client.  Moreover, you are always there for them and their parents.  We appreciate all of your legitimate efforts.  Thank you again and again.  Fondly,

Mrs. Elyse Marcus, 2008

Thank you for taking time before the school year began to correct my daughter’s senior schedule.  You went above and beyond the call of duty when you called me at home to inform me of schedule discrepancies and the available corrective measures. You are truly a dedicated professional.  Thank you again for all that you have done for Stephanie.
